Half of 2014 is already in the books, so we thought it would be a good time to take a look at the songs that have been ruling the charts this year so far! So without further ado…


The Most-Streamed Songs on Spotify – First Half of 2014 (Global)

1. Katy Perry – ‘Dark Horse’ (142,666,577)

3. Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne – ‘Rather Be’ (127,829,913)

4. OneRepublic – ‘Counting Stars’ (103,629,220)

6. Mr. Probz – ‘Waves (Robin Schulz Radio Edit)’ (94,043,979)

7. Imagine Dragons – ‘Demons’ (89,681,979)

Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’ didn’t have the longest run at #1 in the first half of 2014; Calvin Harris has been atop the Global Spotify-50 for seven weeks so far and Perry was #1 for just five. Despite this, ‘Dark Horse’ amassed more streams than any other song in the world, more than 142 million over the last six months!

2. Jason Derulo ft. 2 Chainz – ‘Talk Dirty’ (34,846,968)

3. Bastille – ‘Pompeii’ (34,044,942)

In the US, ‘Dark Horse’ was anything but. Perry’s track was #1 for eleven weeks in a row (the longest run in the US so far this year) and the most-streamed track by far. Interestingly, Jason Derulo’s ‘Talk Dirty’ comes in second despite never having hitting the top spot on the weekly charts.

There’s no question what the biggest song in the UK has been in 2014 so far: Clean Bandit’s global hit “Rather Be” spent ten weeks atop the UK chart and picked up more streams than any other song.

1. Lana Del Rey – ‘Once Upon a Dream’

Lana del Rey’s contribution to the Malificent soundtrack and the most viral track in the world on Spotify thus far in 2014.


2. Soko – ‘We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow’

Soundtracked the hugely popular viral video ‘First Kiss‘, which has over 85 million views on YouTube.


3. Dillon Francis – ‘Get Low’

The EDM star released this collaboration with DJ Snake as a single in February. His debut album is set for release in July.


4. Foster The People – ‘Coming of Age’

Lead single from the band’s Supermodel, which came out in March.


5. Chromeo – ‘Jealous (I Ain’t With It)’

Single and biggest hit from White Women, which was released in May.


6. Tegan & Sara ft. The Lonely Island – ‘Everything Is AWESOME!!!’

The theme song to the wildly popular The LEGO Movie, one of the most popular films of 2014.


7. Zedd – ‘Find You’

Featuring Miriam Bryant and Matthew Koma, this was the first single from the soundtrack to the film Divergent.


8. Doug Seegers ft. Jill Johnson & Magnus Carlsson – ‘Going Down To The River’

Seegers, a formerly-homeless street musician from Nashville, blew up in Sweden this year and became country music’s newest international star.


9. Beck – ‘Blue Moon’

The alt-rocker released his first album in six years this year, Morning Phase, and this was its first single


10. Mike Oldfield – ‘Nuclear’

A recently viral track, ‘Nuclear’ soundtracked the trailer for the video game Metal Gear Solid V.
