The entire Top 10 on the Global Spotify-50 chart is virtually unchanged this week. ‘Timber” from Pitbull & Ke$ha is #1 for the third week in a row, Eminem and One Republic stay at #2 and #3, respectively.
The only new entry into the Top 10 is “Say Something”, the ballad from A Great Big World. This track took top honors in the US last week, and it seems to be making a run at the Global #1 as well. The song jumped four spots this week #12-#8.
Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” falls out of the Top 10 for the first time since last summer.
The most Viral song in the world this week is the new single from LA’s Foster the People. They conquered the world with their 2011 smash hit “Pumped Up Kicks”, and it looks like they might have another hit on their hands with “Coming of Age”, released last week. This is the first single off their new album Supermodel, due in March.
New Jersey indie-favorites Real Estate are #2 on the Most Viral chart this week; their new track “Talking Backwards” is the first single from their new album Atlas, which is set to be released on March 3rd/4th.
Shakira and Rihanna made waves by releasing a new collaboration last week, and “Can’t Remember to Forget You” places third on the Global Viral Chart this week.
Even though A Great Big World is gradually creeping up the Global Spotify-50, they’ve been knocked out of the top spot this week by a familiar face. Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse”, the latest single from Prism, ascends to the top spot on the US Spotify-50 this week, thanks to a big 2.5m stream jump from last week.
A Great Big World is at #2, but sits almost 2 million streams behind Perry as of this writing. We’ll see if “Dark Horse” has the holding power to last a few weeks at the top!
The Top 3 US Viral Chart is identical to the Global Viral Chart, with Foster the People sitting on top.
A new song from Neon Trees, “Sleeping with a Friend”, Bastille’s cover of City High’s early 2000s hit “What Would You Do”, and Misterwives’ “Reflections” all debut in the Top 10 of the Viral Chart this week as well.
Pitbull and Ke$ha rule the UK Spotify-50 for the second week in a row, and after getting knocked out of the top spot last week, Pharrell’s “Happy” dropped five more spots this week #2-#7.
Avicii and Jason Derulo both move up a spot to round out the Top 3, and Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” is the only debut in the UK Top 10 this week.
Thanks to an appearance in a trailer for the new season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Sacramento drone/experimental artist Chelsea Wolfe takes the top spot on the UK Viral Chart this week with her song “Feral Love”. Judging by this song’s success, the Brits are definitely using Spotify to get pumped for the new GoT season and sharing the experience with their friends.
Metal is doing well on the Viral Chart this week, as the metalcore band Architects comes in at #2 with their new song “Naysayer”. It’s released ahead of their new album Lost Forever // Lost Together, scheduled for release in March.
Ones to Watch:
Young The Giant has been debuting at the Viral #1 with every new single they’ve put out in advance of their new album Mind Over Matter, and this week the album is finally released. We’ll have to see if the rest of the album can match the success of its singles. With new releases from Avicii, Beck, Trey Songz, and Damon Albarn, the competition is fierce! Check this space next week to find out what happens.
