Over the past few years, Katy Perry has been no stranger to the top of the charts. This week, she’s back on top. Pitbull’s “Timber” ends its six week run atop the Global Spotify-50 this week, as Perry’s “Dark Horse” amassed 6.9m streams and ascends to the top. This is the second single from last year’s PRISM to hit #1 on the Global-50, “Roar” achieved the feat in August 2013.“Timber” had been #1 for the entirety of 2014 thus far, but this week it falls a spot #1-#2. Pharrell’s “Happy” stays put at #3, and One Republic and Eminem switch places, with “Counting Stars” up a spot #5-#4 and “The Monster” down #4-#5.The Lego Movie has been taking over the world this winter, and, as usual, the Spotify Viral Chart reflects the zeitgeist better than any chart out there! Tegan & Sara’s collaboration with The Lonely Island, “Everything is AWESOME!!!”, is the theme song for the film and is the most Viral song in the world this week.A new track from David Guetta featuring Skylar Grey, “Shot Me Down”, is #2 on the Global Viral Chart this week. The remake of the classic Nancy Sinatra song was released last week and promoted to Guetta’s 5.1 million followers on Spotify (he’s the most-followed artist in the world). The song instantly shot into the Top 3 of the Viral Chart, showing just how powerful promoting within Spotify can be.In at #3 this week is the theme song from HBO’s acclaimed crime drama True Detective, “Far From Any Road” by The Handsome Family.
Katy ruled the US Spotify-50 long before she conquered the overall global chart, and she remains on top this week. “Dark Horse” is the most-streamed song in America for the fifth week in a row, thanks to nearly 2.4million streams in the last seven days.Jason Derulo’s collaboration with 2 Chainz, “Talk Dirty” comes in at #2 for the second consecutive week. The global hit “Pompeii”, from Bastille, had fallen out of the Top 5 last week, but this week it’s back in a big way: the track rises three spots #6-#3 thanks to a near-100,000 stream increase. A Great Big World and Beyoncé round out the Top 5 with “Say Something” (down #3-#4) and “Drunk in Love” (steady at #5) respectively. “Everything Is AWESOME!!!” indeed for Tegan & Sara and The Lonely Island, who hold the Top Viral track in the US (up four spots #5-#1 from last week).Coming in second this week is the viral hit “#SELFIE” from EDM duo The Chainsmokers. Their video for the track has gone viral, amassing nearly 900K views. This song has been featured as the McDonald’s Anthem during their 2014 Winter Olympics ad campaign, and listeners all over the world have picked up and shared The Wyld’s sound.Last week’s Most Viral song, Lana Del Rey’s “Once Upon a Dream”, drops #1-#4 and David Guetta rounds out the Top 5 with “Shot Me Down”.
Another week, another #1 for Clean Bandit. “Rather Be”, the track featuring Jess Glynne, was streamed 1.12 million times in the UK last week, more than enough to propel them to #1 on the UK Spotify-50 for the third week in a row. The song has been streamed almost 7 million times worldwide, with about 55% of those streams coming from the UK. Seems like it’s just a matter of time before this song takes over the rest of the world!The Top-3 in the UK is unchanged this week, with Pitbull at #2 and Pharrell at #3.will.i.am. blasts into the Top-5 with his track “Feelin’ Myself”. Featuring Miley Cyrus,French Montana, Wiz Khalifa and DJ Mustard, the song is the lead single from the expanded version of last year’s #willpower. It’s up two spots this week #6-#4.Avicii’s “Hey Brother” rounds out the Top 5, down a spot #4-#5.Tegan & Sara and The Lonely Island hold the Most Viral song in the UK this week. The second spot is held by Daniel O’Reilly, aka Dapper Laughs, and his debut single “Proper Moist”. O’Reilly first appeared on Vine doing “lad” one-liners and has blown up in the UK.The Chainsmokers and David Guetta are #3 and #4, and rockers Royal Blood round out the Top 5 with their track “Out of the Black”.
