Global Highlights:

Calvin Harris had all but wrapped up his campaign for “Song of the Summer” on Spotify, but MAGIC! is making a late-summer run at the title. Their inescapable hit “Rude” tops the Global Spotify-50 for the fourth week in a row, and is the first track to break 9-million streams in a week since Harris achieved the mark on June 8th.

MAGIC! had more than a million streams than this week’s runner-up, Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”, which takes #2 for the second week in a row.

“Chandelier” jumped two spots this week up to #3, giving Sia her first bow into the Spotify Global Top-3. The track out-streamed “Summer” (down #3-#4) by just 2,300 streams. Ariana Grande’s “Problem” rounds out the Top-5, and last week’s big debut, the Robin Schulz Radio Edit of Lilly Wood & The Prick’s “Prayer in C”, stays at #9 for the second straight week.

Earlier this year, The Chainsmokers took over the Spotify Viral Chart (and the world) with their viral hit “#SELFIE”, and they’ve appeared to have done it again with the followup effort. “Kanye”, a song about wanting to be Kanye, debuts at #1 as the most Viral song in the world this week.

Slipknot released their first new music in six years last week, and Spotify users responded in droves. “The Negative One”, likely to appear on a forthcoming studio album, is #2 this week on the Global Viral Chart. And “Anaconda”, the new Nicki Minaj song featuring a Sir Mix-a-Lot “Baby Got Back” sample and super-racy cover art, comes in at #3.

US Highlights:

Sam Smith continues his reign atop the US Spotify-50 this week, as “Stay With Me” comes in at #1 for the second straight week. Smith’s ballad had 320,000 more streams than MAGIC!’s “Rude”, which places second for a second week in a row.

The rest of the Top-4 is unchanged: US’s biggest hit of the summer thus far, Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”, stays at #3, and Sia’s “Chandelier” is #4.

TrainorNico & Vinz are back in the Top-5 this week with “Am I Wrong”, knocking Ariana Grande’s “Problem” out of the Top-5 for the first time since it was released on May 6th. But don’t feel too bad for Grande, as her track “Break Free” is at #7 and her collaboration with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, debuts at #9 this week.

Another song debuted in the Top-10 this week: jumping ten spots #18-#8 is Megan Trainor’s “All About That Bass”, a track that started out by taking over the Spotify Viral Charts and crossed over to the Top-50 quickly. It’s another example that the Spotify Viral Chart is a highly reliable place to find the next big thing!

Speaking of the Viral Chart, The Chainsmokers’ “Kanye” is the most viral song in the US this week, with Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” coming in a close second. Slipknot rounds out the Top-3.

UK Highlights:

MAGIC! is #1 in the UK for the third week in a row, thanks to another week with more than 1.1 million streams. But Nico & Vinz jumped four spots up to #2 this week, so while it’s still way behind, if this trajectory continues there’s an outside shot it could challenge “Rude” for the top.

JWareRemixNico & Vinz’s rise pushed the rest of the Top-5 down a spot apiece: “Problem”, George Ezra’s “Budapest”, and Ed Sheeran’s “Sing” all drop a spot to #3, #4, and #5 respectively.

Meanwhile, on the UK Viral Chart, London’s Young Guns top the chart with their hard rocking single “I Want Out”. This is the first look at their as-yet untitled new album, which is expected to be released sometime in early 2015. Slipknot takes #2, and the Cyril Hahn Remix of Jessie Ware’s single “Tough Lo ve” rounds out the Top-3.

Ones to Watch:

New albums from Porter Robinson, FKA twigs, and The Gaslight Anthem are out this week, and buzzy tracks from Ryn Weaver, The Knocks, Sheppard, Sam Hunt, and TIAAN should make an impact on the charts as well.
