“Summer” just keeps getting hotter. Calvin Harris’ mega-hit is #1 on the Global Spotify-50 for the fourth week in a row, and its 9.48 million streams breaks the record for the highest one-week stream total ever on Spotify. If its upward trajectory continues this track might be the first to break 10-million streams in a week. Keep tabs on all the record-breaking action right here!David Guetta’s “Bad” retains the #2 spot for the second week in a row, but it doesn’t look like it’ll stay there for long. The Iggy/Ariana duo that’s been owning the US charts all Spring is close behind and gaining ground. Ariana Grande’s “Problem” is #3 and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” is #4 and streams for both are on the increase. Look for Guetta to be ousted from the Top-3 next week by these two powerhouse tracks.Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” continues its slow descent from the top: it’s down two spots #3-#5. deadmau5 is putting out singles ahead of his new album while(1<2), and the latest offering, “Seeya” is #1 on the Global Viral Chart this week. The new album comes out on June 17 and should make a major impact on all charts globally when it’s out. What happens when one of the most popular artists of the last decade covers one of the most popular tracks of the last year? It goes viral. And that’s exactly what happened with John Mayer’s cover of Beyoncé’s “XO”: it was released last week and immediately shot to #2 on the Global Viral Chart.Do It Again, the new “mini-album” from Norwegian duo Röyksopp and Swedish songstress Robyn came out last week, and while the title track made waves on the Viral Chart as a single a few weeks back, “Monument” enters the Viral Top-3 this week. The trio will be embarking on a major tour this summer to spread good Scandanavian vibes the world over. And speaking of songstresses, Lana Del Rey’s new single “Shades of Cool” is #4 on the Viral Chart this week. This track is the followup to Viral/Global smash “West Coast”, and at this point it’s pretty clear that hype for Ultraviolence, LDR’s new album, is at a fever pitch. It’s out later this month.
First thing’s first: Iggy continues to dominate the US Spotify-50. “Fancy” is #1 for the fifth week in a row and, yet again, broke the one-week streaming record for the US. Listeners streamed “Fancy” 3.4 million times this week, but the growth has slowed somewhat. Will that be enough for Ariana Grande’s “Problem” to gain some ground and challenge for the top? It’ll be tough: Grande is still 500,000+ streams out of the #1 spot, but that’s still easily good for #2.Calvin Harris sits at #3 in the US for the fourth straight week. Disclosure’s “Latch” continues its slow rise towards the top of the US charts: last week it entered the Top-5 and this week it’s up another spot #5-#4. The track was streamed 1.68 million times last week, so it has a ways to go before challenging the Top-3, but this song has taken its time to get to this point, so anything’s possible.Nico & Vinz make their US Spotify-50 Top-5 debut this week with “Am I Wrong”, up two spots #7-#5.And two tracks debuted in the Top-10: Jason Derulo’s collab with Snoop Dogg, “Wiggle”, is up #14-#7, and MAGIC!’s summertime jam “Rude” made a huge jump this week; it’s up sixteen spots #26-#10.John Mayer’s “XO” is the most viral track in the US this week, with deadmau5 coming in second with “Seeya”. Last week’s most viral song, Cherub’s “Strip To This”, falls to #3 and Röyksopp/Robyn are in at #4. Milky Chance’s “Stolen Dance” rounds out the US Viral Top-5.
For the fifth week in a row, “Waves” is the most-streamed song in the UK, but that might be changing soon. The Robin Schulz edit of the Mr. Probz track was streamed 1.16 million times last week, down from last week. Meanwhile, Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” was released in the UK and shot to #2 on the chart with 930,000 plays. If the impressive debut is any indication, Smith will be taking the top spot soon.A trio of familiar names round out the Top-3: Calvin Harris is down #2-#3, Iggy Azalea down #3-#4, and Clean Bandit is down #4-#5 (all to make room for Smith). “Problem” has not yet been released in UK, but expect it to make a big splash on the charts when it’s out on June 29th. Röyksopp/Robyn take most viral honors in the UK this week, while deadmau5 settles for #2. At #3 on the UK Viral Chart is one to watch: Thief. This is the project of PJ Wolf, an Australian producer/songwriter who won the prestigious Triple-J Unearthed Top Song competition and released his EP Closer in May. The title track from that EP has been showing nice stream and share increases around the world, but especially in the UK, where it enters the Top-3 of the Viral Chart this week.
Ones to Watch:
We’re mere days away from the start of the 2014 World Cup, and Aloe Blacc & David Correy’s World Cup anthem “The World Is Ours” was released this week. That should do some things on the Global charts as the world gets pumped up for the tourney. Also expect new songs from Trey Songz, Morrissey, Jason Mraz, and Imagine Dragons to impact, and new albums from Miranda Lambert and Spotify favorite Glass Animals should show up too.—Follow @SpotifyArtists on Twitter and sign up to the Artist Services Newsletter for regular updates on best practice, product updates, financial information and other useful information for artists and their teams.
